Change your pace



This week speaking with Mark on the Glover show he said  “Debbie this race to good health is not a sprint it’s really a marathon.”  I agreed. It’s something I often have to remind myself and my clients. It’s so easy to let setbacks or bumps in the road change our pace. Not only does it change our pace it often changes the race all together. Each of us has the best of intentions towards the goals we set but we don’t always set them realistically. I agree that aiming high is by all means smarter than aiming low. However, I believe Optimal Health shouldn’t be something we race towards and expect within weeks or months. It is a marathon goal. It should be a daily, continual life time goal.

We wake up each day and breathe, drink and eat right? Do we set a goal to breathe? No we do it. Health is a choice that should be made just like breathing. Why in the world would we choose otherwise? Exercise has become an option to folks when it should really be their priority. Without it, you can plan to make visiting the doctor your priority. If we could make a choice to choose clean eating daily as well as a simple 45 minutes of exercise 5 days a week I guarantee our options would change in our life.

Instead of higher health insurance premiums and medications we'll take more vacations!

I feel prompted to comment on your pace. Change your pace for this New Year. Don’t race to the gym and sprint to the diet isle. Create a consistent pattern of positive choices that can be continually met. Hire a professional to keep you accountable for your actions until you can make this shift on your own. Start your marathon planning today. A lifetime of good health can start today, with just one decision to do the right thing. Eat for health not for comfort. Spend your time with health minded individuals. Entertain with activity not with food. Choose healthy ways to create a tasteful meal. Convince yourself that your life will improve with each positive change you make.

There will be challenges along the way. It might take longer than you thought to get into a consistent pattern. It might feel more difficult than you first thought it would be. You can easily throw in the towel and go back to your old bad habits and tell yourself you will never be healthy. Instead realize you have come too far to quit!

Change your pace today. No matter what happens to you today. No matter how hard your day is, how many hours you work or how much is on your plate - stick with it. Make it a lifetime marathon of good health. Continue to remind yourself of your victories not your failures.

Don’t let mistakes and setbacks hold you back, just keep thinking "forward" not "backward".

It’s a marathon not a sprint. Enjoy a lifetime of optimal health today.
